Founder:
Guapo was founded by Mali Gunter out of a personal mission to open doors for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Growing up in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, Mali experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating urban life—limited opportunities, systemic barriers, and the pressures of environments where success can feel out of reach.
Inspired by the struggles he witnessed and faced himself, Mali launched Guapo to provide more than just access to higher and degree apprenticeships. He wanted a platform that combines guidance, mentorship, and practical support with the inspiration and confidence young people need to pursue their ambitions.
Combining his background in Law from the University of Bristol with his current PhD research at the University of Surrey, Mali brings analytical rigour, entrepreneurial insight, and creative vision to everything he does.
Mali also performs as ‘Guapo Marlz’ in the UK rap scene, using his music to highlight the experiences, challenges, and resilience of his community, exploring themes of identity, ambition, and social reality. He is also the founder of the London-based underground events brand ‘Trapanomics'.
Through Guapo, Mali channels his own experiences into building pathways for young people—helping them overcome obstacles, discover opportunities, and realise potential they might never have thought possible.
